The Ruby Tide is based off of the Irish pirate queen, Grace O’Malley who controlled a highly used waterway to plunder and pillage. From 1530 to 1630, Grace O’Malley was one of the most famous pirates of all time. “Grace had a marltime empire—part trade, part mercenary, and part piracy” She became quite a wealthy business women in her own right. A letter describes her as “the nurse to all rebellions in the province for 40 years”.
John O’Neill was a merchant marine on a Scottish shipyard. He married Mary Murray and had a child, Margaret O’Neill. It was John O’Neill’s dream to start a restaurant and so his family and him moved
the America to start a new life. He wanted the restaurant to be an inspiration to his daughter
so he created it around the idea of Grace O’Malley the pirate queen. He had a lot of
feminine touch from his wife Mary.
